Creating Connections Through Art & Resilience

Lisa's story began long before brushes and vibrant paint filled her days. As a proud Army veteran with 21 years of service, she learned discipline, teamwork, and leadership - skills that would one day become the foundation for a new kind of mission. When military life transitioned into civilian life, Lisa faced the same challenges many others in the community encounter: finding peace, building new friendships, and searching for an outlet to reconnect with herself.

It was during this transition that Lisa discovered the calming power of painting. Art became more than a hobby; it grew into a source of comfort and healing. With each brushstroke, she found herself processing memories, forging a sense of calm, and realizing how deeply creativity helps us cope. This personal discovery sparked a bigger dream - to give back to Mid Missouri by creating a peaceful, judgment-free studio where everyone could find their own creative voice.

Now, Lisa welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds into a space filled with laughter, color, and encouragement. Her easy-to-follow teaching style, shaped by years of military instruction, provides support for both beginners and experienced artists. The heart of Create With Lisee beats with a desire to help others relax, connect, and express their true selves through art. By blending kindness, resilience, and artistic passion, Lisa's mission is to turn every gathering into an opportunity for growth, friendship, and genuine community.

Get inspired by Lisa's Incredible Journey

In and Out of Uniform is the captivating memoir of retired U.S. Army service member Lisa R. Kirk that chronicles stories of her life both in and out of the military. Readers get an intimate glimpse into the many ups and downs she experienced as a woman in the male-dominated world of the military. Kirk’s patriotism and perseverance shine through as she shares painful experiences, from her first year in the army in 1996, to her time as a drill sergeant, to the difficult process of transitioning back to civilian life.

Kirk wrote this book as a form of therapy for the internalized negative feelings that were affecting her health. She hopes this work inspires and motivates others who have experienced abuse and discrimination. She wants them to know they are not alone and encourage them to open up about their experiences so that they can experience healing and find hope for the future.
